Joycult was formed in Kilkenny in 2022 by school friends Lydia Murphy, performing lead vocals and rhythm guitar, James O'Neill, playing drums and Tomas Holden on bass
The band was joined by guitarist Oscar Broderick in 2025. In 2026, Abi Rafter was added to the lineup, performing lead guitar and backing vocals.
The band often performs alongside and shares members with Dublin stalwarts Bad Mothers Union, DC Dolls and Kilkenny indie outfit Harveys.
They are currently based in Dublin.
They have played countless shows across Ireland, including shows in The Button Factory, The Grand Social, and Kilkenny's iconic Set Theatre. In summer of 2025, the band embarked on a mini tour of Ireland, performing in Kilkenny, Dublin, Drogheda, Waterford & Wexford.
They have recorded an upcoming EP, with plans to release it in the coming months.
