Revue

Indie // BELFAST, Down

Revue are a Belfast duo - singer Emma Loudon and multi-instrumentalist/producer Marty Price - who share a love for classic songwriting and folk music in its broadest sense; Irish & British traditional songs and the Americana of roots, jazz and blues. They filter these influences through the updated sounds of indie pop and the ethereal/groove contrasts of alternative rock or trip-hop to produce an indie-folk meld of the likes of Feist, Cat Power or a modern-day version of The Band.

Last year the Arts Council of NI funded recording sessions for their debut album Why Can't You Stay, to be released in Spring 2023. The writing for this album was as inspired by the natural world as it was by themes of loss, specifically the recent loss of Emma's father (a lifelong singer/bassist) and her brother, although losses of relationships, friendships and environments have also mixed and joined with the psychological meditations and simmering feminist heat that has always existed in their songs.

They road-tested some of this material at Hay-on-Wye's How The Light Gets In festival (the world's largest festival of philosophy and music) just prior to these recording sessions, and are returning to the festival this year. Joined by a full band, they will also be travelling to France this summer for their third tour of the Brittany region. These past tours, as well as more local/Irish shows and tours and national/international radioplay, were fuelled by The Wolf EP, released in 2022, and three previous singles.

2023 will see the release of their album, further touring dates and shows, and lots of time spent in their cosy home studio and the wild beauty of forests, coasts and cliffs that continue to inspire them and their music.
