Combine the spoken word and trumpet playing of Morgan Sloggett (A.K.A M-Dog Slog) with the heavy hip-hop beats of producer Jung Gough and you'll find yourself in the soundscape that is Paper Clap.
Following the release of their Debut Album 'Walk It Off' in July 2021, Paper Clap have gradually found their sonic niche. Drawing from jazz, dance and hip-hop influences, the lads have created an electronic, dynamic and high energy live show that brings the crowd from quiet spoken word right through to banging beats and blazing horns. The lads have been awarded funding through the Arts Council to record and produce an EP this year and with a summer full of festivals coming up and new releases on the way they're buzzing to share out some more good vibes.
The lads are just two ordinary blokes from Meath. John is the water sports Manager in Decathlon, Ballymun and Morgan is a Physiotherapist working down the road from there. Morgan's background is playing trumpet for the local brass band in Balbriggan and John has been making beats for years, taught by his older brother James. Morgan started writing raps during his studies in UCD when he was too lit on caffeine in the library to focus. It was around that time in 2016 that the lads started collaborating. Initially it was just messing around with piss-take raps after a few cans in John's brother's home studio, but after a couple of tunes the lads started hearing the feedback from their listeners and decided they wanted to grow together and create music that resonated with people, because they felt like they had something to say.
