Born out in the West of Ireland, Kit James is a Dublin-based atmospheric indie-folk songwriter. His intricate guitar work along with his evocative lyrics echo the melancholic spirit of John Martyn and Nick Drake mixed with modern indie-folk reminiscent of Ben Howard and Bon Iver. Between the fingerpicking and percussive guitar styles, open tunings and poetic lyricism, Kit crafts songs that feel intimate and moving. All of this is evident in his live performance where he is accompanied by cello and ambient electric guitar - often described as captivating and ethereal.
Emerging steadily through the Irish live circuit, Kit, formerly performing as Keith Plunkett, has opened for The Hothouse Flowers, Hudson Taylor, Declan O’Rourke, Hermitage Green, and Paddy Casey. He has headlined shows at Monroe’s, The Spirit Store, The Workman’s Club, the legendary Matt Molloy’s and has showcased his music at major festivals including Electric Picnic and All Together Now.
Recognised on national and regional radio, Kit was selected as "Homegrown Hero of the Week" on Today FM’s morning show with Dermot & Dave and named "Artist of the Week" on Beat 102-103 by Niall Power. He has performed live on over 20 Irish stations and strengthened his stagecraft through more than 150 pop-up shows all across Ireland in unique places from cafés and restaurants to shopping centres, train stations and everything in between.
Following the release of his debut single 'RUN' in late 2025, Kit continues to collaborate with Berklee-trained engineer Quentin Thane Singer (formerly of The Village Studios, California). The next three releases include the upcoming single 'Cold Cold', marking the next chapter of Kit’s atmospheric folk sound.
