Young Chinese Dogs

Folk // Dublin

Munich based indiepop-folksters Young Chinese Dogs started out in the first days of January 2011. The trio's motto:
“You can only play on stage what you can carry with your own two hands to the venue!“
That means: no drum kit, no amps, no electronics, no effect pedals! What is left is three harmony vocals, two acoustic guitars and a toy piano.

In days of keyboard dominated pop music Young Chinese Dogs “shine out like a pearl”, as Curt Magazine put it. In just two years the band played over 90 shows, along with highly reputed German festivals such as Tollwood, Prima Leben und Stereo-Festival and Berlin Music Week, to which the Young Chinese Dogs were personally invited to by Universal music.

In September 2011 they released their first EP “Life in a Cardboard Box”.
Five songs recorded on vintage equipment in their own living room only on acoustic instruments. No keyboards, no effects – only acoustic instruments.
However: this record does not sound like conventional Americana or traditional folk!
“We live in Munich, which is the very south of Germany. Munich is a very peculiar place: there is always a gentle breeze blowing from the Alps, and there is always the sound of the river Isar, which is just 100 metres from our front door. You will hear both the wind and the Isar on our record!”

German critics claimed they found the “hottest debut of the year”, Bavarian Public Broadcasting, amongst others, made the Dogs their 'band of the week' right after the EP was released. Features in nationwide radio and TV followed.
