Was Man

Was Man is a solo musical project by Dublin singer, songwriter and guitarist, Warren McCarthy. Beginning as a casual endeavour with a couple of single releases during the pandemic, the project has grown more recently through intimate live shows and the release of another track, ‘Miller’s Crossing’, at the end of 2025.

This year has seen further progress with Irish festival performances at Another Love Story's Another New Year's Eve, and upcoming at Cróilár in Athlone in April. The live experience will also take on new depth with a first band show in The Cobblestone, Dublin, on 5 June.

Was Man's material most often combines a direct and literal approach to lyric writing with poignant vocals, expressive guitar playing and ambient textures. It offers a pared-back, raw contrast to the more collaborative and densely arranged music of his work with electronic folk band, Let's Set Sail. His qualities are evident in new single, 'The Glasgow Akita'; the second from an LP due later this year.
