- What is a pooka?

:: A pooka is an old celtic nature spirit who comes to take revenge, through mischief and tomfoolery, on those who infringe too much on the natural world. In the caves of Chauvet-Pont-Darc in Southern France archeologists found wall paintings over 30 thousand years old. Some of these paintings depict half human half animal forms. They believe these to be the first images drawn by man of 'nature spirits' - the first images of the Pooka.
