"Lovely voice"
Joshua Burnside
The Dream of Horses is the musical project of the folk singer, fiddler and guitarist Judy Murphy. Judy interweaves literary figures as wide as D.H. Lawrence, Mary Oliver and the Irish bardic poets of previous centuries in her work. She lists Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt and new age folk singers Adrianne Lenker and Laura Marling as influences. She takes inspiration from enriching life experiences from busking across southern Europe, learning from fiddlers in the forests of rural Sweden, to her studies of the traditional arts - song, fiddle and folklore. Her work is deeply intertwined with nature and life's processes and her background is in Environmental Science.
She is currently in the process of recording her second studio album, which will reflect her lifelong engagement and connection with traditional folk music, inspired by artists such as Caitlîn Maude, who effortlessly weave poetry, storytelling, singing and music.
'This Thing is Ours' is the first studio album from the alternative-folk band The Dream of Horses. Written by the Cork songwriter Judy Murphy and recorded in Girona with a Catalan band. The album dances from heart wrenching songs to mystical soundscapes. A true weaving of culture, hearts, bodies and souls.
