Now 25, the Belfast-based artist is carving out a lane that feels both deeply rooted and unmistakably forward-thinking.

A songwriter, producer, and guitarist with a clear artistic vision, Tanaka has been reshaping Belfast’s soundscape since 2018, pushing the boundaries of the city’s UNESCO City of Music status by introducing global influences and alternative production into the local conversation. His sound—a shape-shifting fusion of smooth R&B with Afro-wave, Afro-House, Amapiano, and sleek electronic elements—balances deep musicality with global ambition.

His breakthrough single Trust the Process, a collaboration with South African producer Tebza, catapulted him into the Afro-house and Amapiano spotlight. The track’s viral success marked a turning point, positioning Tanaka as a creative force with international reach and intent.
Momentum continued to build. In January 2025, he entered a new phase of his career, producing under Empire Records and expanding both his creative scope and industry footprint. Earlier this year, his hit record "Baddie"—a collaboration with Tom Endzy and Lucas Estrada—became a runaway success, surpassing 12 million Spotify streams and cementing his presence within Europe’s fast-evolving electronic and experimental scenes.

With 40 million+ streams across platforms, over 1 million monthly listeners, and strong listenership across Europe and the USA, Tanaka’s reach now extends far beyond the island. Each release bridges continents and communities, proving that his artistry isn’t tied to a single city or scene—it’s built for a global audience.
