Hailing from Limerick Ireland, the five-piece Supermodel Twins (Thom O’Keeffe, Alan O’Keeffe, Davey O’Keeffe, Mike Gavin and Noel Mooney) have an unerring, breezy power-pop sensibility that suggests they are bronzed Californian surfer dudes rather than the pasty-faced dwellers of the grey streets depicted in Frank McCourt’s “Angela’s Ashes”.
Supermodel Twins are purveyors of perfect three-minute pop songs that combine intelligent lyrics about love, lust and loneliness with infectious melodies, sinful harmonies and dramatic guitar-crescendos delivered in a Beatles-like swagger. Influenced by the likes of Weezer, Nada Surf and Jimmy Eat World, Supermodel Twins’ sound brims with moments of wry genius that owes more to the genuine pop masterworks of The Beach Boys and Burt Bacharach than it’s modern day imitators.
Currently, the band are finishing up production on their debut album with “The Cranberries” guitarist and songwriter, Noel Hogan. They are on the verge of having the best year of their career to date, with the release the first single from said album, “Bruises”, back in March. “Bruises” also received the accolade of Single Of The Week on 2FM in April. A second single and the album to follow this summer. Watch this space!
They have thrown themselves full force back into the live scene after an 18 months absence for the production of the album. Recent shows have included sell outs for the IMRO Showcase Tour 2010 and The Hot Press/Jagermeister Freezer Sessions, as well as playing to a 20,000 strong crowd at their local Thomond Park, Limerick with The Cranberries and Heathers for the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony 2010.
For a full list of their tour dates and more information see their website, supermodeltwins.com and you can also keep up with the band on Twitter @supermodeltwins. Bruises is out now on download and is available from downloadmusic.ie, iTunes, and many more.
