Stevie G is one of Irelands best known DJs and he has been heavily involved in promoting hip-hop and soul music here for 20 years. His Black on Red show on Corks RedFM is now over 12 years old while he is still a regular feature on the festival circuit too. His long term residencies in clubs such as the Sir Henrys, the Pavilion and Jam at the Savoy were all highly influential and he has DJ’d with everyone from De La Soul and Roy Ayers to Destiny’s Child and Kanye West. He released some records with the legendary Fishgodeep back in the day but only recently returned to producing music and he has now started up his own Soul Jamz imprint. The debut single is co-produced by Ian Ring of Young Wonder, who is also behind the desk for Talos, Daithi and many more projects, and it is features Christiana Underwood on vocals. Christiana is a Cork based Chicago born singer who is also a big part of Stevie’s Deep South Soul Sound System. They recently did their first gig at Body and Soul Festival at the Midnight Circus. They also include Senita Appiakorang of Cork band Shookrah, and Laura O’Callaghan, formerly of the Papa Zitas. They launched the single and label at the Sextant in Cork on August 17 and played Earthship at Body & Soul at the Electric Picnic on August 31st! They have since played Dublins Sugar club too and had a big gig at the cork jazz festival in Deep South. Their new single is out this week.
