Richie Buckley, A self-taught saxophone player, Buckley has long been recognized on an international level as one of the finest jazz musicians of today. His performing credits include Van Morrison, Freddie Hubbard, Dave McKenna, Jiggs Wigham, Bob Dylan, Georgie Fame, Elvis Costello and many more. His recording credits include Van Morrison, Lisa Stansfield, Riverdance, the lord of the dance, The Spice Girls and Elmer Bernstein. One of the longest serving members of Van Morrison’s band, Buckley has also recorded and performed with most major Irish artists such as The Cranberries, Christy Moore, Paul Brady, Sharon Shannon, Mary Black and Bill Whelan. Richie has scored five documentary films and two feature films, including The General directed by John Boorman. More recently he has scored the music for the documentary “Lee Marvin”also directed by Boorman.. Richie has also written the score for the movie “Goldfish memory” directed by Liz Gill and “WC” written and directed by Liam O Mochain. Richie’s second album ‘Your love is here’ is dedicated to his late father, Dick Buckley, a great and inspiring jazz musician and is a testament to Richie’s infectious genius and is a reminder that this Irish jazz musician and composer ranks with the best in the world.Your love is here consists of seven original tracks, six of which are written by Buckley, the album comes just at the peak of the saxophonists career. It was recorded in Dublin in the Autumn of 2000 and culminated with a fantastic final night show. Buckley was joined by the legendary American trumpeter Lew Soloff (of Blood, Sweat and Tears who is currently touring with Barbara Streisand), Robin Aspland (Van Morrisons band), Orlando Le Fleming (Bass) and Sebastiaan de Krom. Album “astral weeks live at the Hollywood bowl” Which led to five tours of the USA in 2009 and 2010. In more recent years, from touring in Ireland, USA, Australia and Europe, Richie has become a long standing member of Mary Black band in the last 13 years. He is joining her on her Slán Tour this coming spring 2026.. Richie will also be joining Van Morrison on various shows around Europe during the summer of 2026.
