rex mundi

Hip Hop // Wicklow, Wicklow // He/Him

rex mundi is a music project curated by half Irish/half Greek rapper and producer Alex Bazigos. Alex has worked under his newly formed alias rex mundi as of late 2022 but he has been releasing music independently and with other aspiring artists since 2017, drawing the listeners attention with his rapping ability and his unique productions. Alex breaks the barrier between Hip-Hop and other popular genres of music, to create an ineffable and unorthodox sound.

In 2018 Alex and some fellow classmates from college formed the Irish Hip-Hop group called the Róg Poets, who operated under their own independent collective ‘Róg Records’. Alex played a critical role as a member of the Róg Poets appearing on most of the group's discography and occasionally featuring on production musically and visually. Coverage from Irish media outlets such as Nialler9, RTE Pulse and Hotpress and being noted for their energetic live shows created a buzz for the group within the Irish music scene at the group’s early stages.

In April 2020 Alex released his first solo project ‘The Purple Path’ EP under his original artist alias Bazigos on the Róg Records platform. ‘The Purple Path’ was received with critical acclaim and featured the successful track ‘Prison Break’. Alex collaborated with Gnarvana director and distinguished videographer Leslie Sharpe and released two videos for ‘The Purple Path’ for the tracks ‘Prison Break’ and ‘Adjustment’.

“Bazigos shares some visuals for his track ‘Prison Break’. With his animated and off-set delivery, Bazigos tells a story about being a prisoner in his own mind and using his creativity to break free. Heavily inspired by the sounds of Trip-Hop and Rock, Bazigos displays a nice balance of energy and experimental sounds in this track.” - GRUNGECAKE

Later that year he also released the track ‘Casual Spit’ featuring Phev which showed Alex’s musical versatility, displaying a more old school focused Hip-Hop production as opposed to the previous project’s musical style. The track was also accompanied by a video with frequent collaborator Leslie Sharpe.

“Emerging Wicklow, Ireland-based producer/label owner Bazigos teams up with emcee Phev for a bravado-laden piece titled “Casual Spit.” The track takes listeners back to the essence of dope lyricism over smooth dope beats. With Bazigos behind the boards, he crafts a bass-heavy and choppy backdrop that fits the rapper’s laidback and carefree flows.” - THE WORD IS BOND

After playing at multiple shows across the country and acquiring a dedicated fan base through their live performances and releases, COVID caused logistic trouble for the group and the Róg Records collective was approaching its final days as a whole unit. In February 2022 the Róg Poets released their final project ‘Two Sides of the Same Coin’ which showed significant growth and maturity for each artist. Highlights from the project include the tracks ‘Funky’, ‘Melody Jar’ and the follow up to their 2018 hit ‘Karpackie Pt.2’.

Around the same time in 2022, Alex moved to London and started to work on his new media platform ‘As Above So Below Entertainment’ and released his first single ‘nice af’ as rex mundi in early December of the same year. A clear step-up from his previous work, the track is a fusion of his eastern musical influence and alternative Hip-Hop.

In early 2023 Alex released ‘the bar dealership’ EP which was a glimpse into his evolving boom-bap style, this record is characterized by it's heavy Lo-Fi character. In April he would then follow up with his collaboration ‘it’s like that’ featuring London Lo-Fi producer Ghilburt.

It is anticipated that rex mundi will release his debut solo album ‘13 bullets’ which will feature 13 originally produced tracks in the first half of 2024.
