Named after the shape-shifting creature of Irish mythology , Púca Pulse is a high-energy Irish folk trad-rock band pushing traditional music into bold new territory. Their sound blends drums, concertina, whistle, guitar and powerful vocals with brand-new arrangements that transform folk and trad music into something loud, heavy and full of life. The result is a live show that feels closer to a stadium-ready rock concert than a quiet trad session — an electrifying, entertaining experience that has left all audiences asking for encores!
In 2026 the band will perform at the Fields of Éire Festival in Liverpool and at the Uisneach Festival, bringing their contemporary take on Irish folk to audiences in Ireland and abroad. With a growing live following and a strong connection to Ireland’s musical heritage, the band are part of a new generation pushing folk music onto the global stage. Their debut album is planned for release in late Autumn 2026.
The group quickly took shape with players like whistle virtuoso and composer Kevin Meehan, who has performed for massive crowds at Croke Park. Meehan is widely respected within the Irish traditional scene for both his playing and is widely acclaimed for his original compositions on his album "Spanish Point". Legendary accordionist Sharon Shannon has praised his work, saying, “I’m a big fan of Kevin’s music. I love his style of playing and I love his compositions. His recordings are all fantastic." He has also been described as “one of Ireland’s finest tin whistle players and composers of contemporary Irish music” by Eoghan McGrath, founding member of the Irish band Kingfishr. Vocalist Tia Burke was personally chosen by Self Esteem to support her in the Olympia Theatre. She won a competition selected by Kodaline to spend a day in studio with them.
While their music draws loose comparisons to legendary Irish folk-rock pioneers like Horslips and artists such as The Cranberries, Púca Pulse carve out a sound entirely their own. Driving rhythms, world-class traditional musicianship and infectious energy create a style that stands apart from anything else happening in Irish folk right now.
At the heart of the band’s philosophy is a deep respect for Irish traditional and folk music. Long before streaming and social media, these songs travelled across generations and continents through voices, instruments and storytelling.
Their mission is simple but ambitious: to fuse folk and traditional music into a powerful modern sound while keeping every arrangement true to the spirit of the songs.. With an explosive live show and a world-class lineup of musicians, Púca Pulse aim to bring Irish folk trad-rock to new audiences around the world.
Like the mythical creature they’re named after, Púca Pulse are unpredictable, energetic and impossible to ignore . 👻
