‘In Calico’ is the latest offering from new Irish band, neptune blood.
Out on August 25 2025, on all streaming platforms.

‘In Calico’ has burst through the gates and is raring to go. With nostalgic hints of when early 2000s indie bands dominated the airwaves, neptune blood deliver a track that is a must-add to anyone's late-Summer playlist. A soundtrack for those who remember what it was like to cling onto those last moments of sun, beads of sweat rolling down your back, heat rising from the concrete and soaking in evenings that you wish would never end.

At the crux of it, ‘In Calico’ is not just about reminiscing. Singer Ronan Mitchell explains; “In Calico explores the feeling of being at a point in your life where you’re looking back nostalgically on parts of your life, while still having a lot to look forward to.” While recalling his younger days, Mitchell continues to explain that the line about ‘Reet Petite’ refers to the 1958 Jackie Wilson song. “One of my earliest, most visceral memories is of the claymation video to that song and how it terrified me. I couldn’t even walk yet but whenever it came on the TV I’d scurry behind the couch to hide from it. I still find it kind of unsettling now, if I’m honest.”

Recorded with producer Ben Wanders (Kneecap, The Scratch, Kingfishr) at Wanderland Recording Studio, Limerick. neptune blood consists of Ronan Mitchell, Morgan Nolan, Manolis Pates, Shane Serrano, Kieran J. Sims and Damien Moore, formerly of such Limerick stalwarts as Fox Jaw and The Hip Neck Blues Collective.

The music video, directed by Darragh O’Flannagáin, compliments the song with similar nostalgic vibes, following the relationship of a child and his bike. From licking his wounds, to facing his fears, and building himself the fastest bike in town.
