Mick Brown

Folk // Galway

Mick Brown is a Galway-based folk singer, songwriter and recording artist whose music is deeply rooted in the traditional folk heritage of the West of Ireland. Performing primarily as a solo artist on acoustic guitar and harmonica, Mick also collaborates regularly with fellow musicians to create engaging and dynamic live performances.
Influenced by artists such as Christy Moore, Liam Clancy, and John Spillane, Mick’s songwriting combines rich storytelling with honest, heartfelt lyrics and melodies that reflect the traditions of Irish folk music.
Following a winter hiatus, Mick returned to The Western Hotel in Galway City in March 2026 to resume his weekly residency. Every Wednesday, he is joined by a rotating lineup of some of Galway’s finest musicians. The session has become a vibrant and creative fixture in the local music scene, celebrated for its atmosphere and musical collaboration. Mick is set to appear as the supporting artist for Graham Watson at the Cat and Cage Folk Club, Dublin, on October 21st, with further performance dates to be announced shortly.
He continues to develop his songwriting and production work. In April 2026, Mick completed a four-month mentorship with Canadian music producer Charles Cleyn, further refining his home recording and studio production skills. He is currently writing new material, with plans to release one to two singles in Autumn/Winter 2026, followed by a full album release in 2027.
His debut EP, Remember How We Dreamed, was released in April 2024. The EP was chosen as EP of the week by both Mike Mulvihill, Shannonside/Northern Sound Radio, and David Dee Moore of Folk Friday Radio, “Deserved EP of the week, really good songs. If you like your folks singing, if you like your stories listen to Mick Brown. This is a lovely EP”, David Dee Moore, Folk Friday Radio. The EP was described by The Connacht Tribune as “a tender exploration of life, love and loss.” Songwriter Don Stiffe praised the release, saying: “This CD is a beautiful piece of work. There are five beautiful songs on it — the stories are wonderful.”
Mick has spent many years honing his craft on stages and in venues throughout Ireland and the UK. Previous highlights include supporting John Spillane for the folks at Drimoleague Singing Festival and opening for Padraig Jack at Bridge of Song. Commenting on Mick’s live performance, Declan Swift (Bridge of Song) remarked, “Now the place feels like a folk club.”
