Mayfield Sound

Alternative // Smithfield, Dublin // He/Him

Mayfield Sound is the pseudonym for Dublin based indie-rocker Darragh McCauley. Growing up in the 90s, he draws musical inspiration from the pre-internet era where slacker rock reigned supreme and bands like Pavement and Weezer ruled the airwaves. The singer’s tongue-in-cheek writing style stems from an inherent distrust of the digital age and all of its foibles as shown on tracks like ‘Strangers on The Internet’.

A long time listener and recent first-time caller, McCauley began releasing original music with 2024’s ‘Make It Better’ which garnered radio play from RTÉ’s Beta Da Silva. More recent releases include ’Doghouse’ and ‘Free Gaff’, a painfully relatable song about making music in your 30s and competing against children for the limelight. The latter was also playlisted on Radio Nova’s Guestlist with DJ Kieran McGuinness praising the song’s humour and production quality.

Mayfield Sound has performed sold out shows in Dublin’s Bellobar as well as Whelan’s Upstairs venue (150 cap). The band will make their return to the up-and-coming Night and Day festival again in 2026 following a raucous set at last year’s festival.

Mayfield Sound is a continually developing project with the band due to release an album later this year consisting of 10 new tracks. Recorded at Dublin’s ‘The Clinic’ studio - ‘Back To 99’ will be the first single from the album and showcases a higher fidelity version of the band. It was produced by Hugh O’Dwyer (Spies, Daire Heffernan, Morgana) and was engineered by Cian Synnott (Amble, Kingfishr, Sorcha Richardson).

This song shows a new ambitious quality both in terms of songwriting and production and has been included in this application for your consideration.
