Max Mori-Bley is a Dublin-based musician, composer, sound designer, and multidisciplinary artist working across Irish folk, experimental music, theatre, and visual art. He is the founding member of A Clatter and Drone and the main visionary behind the project, whose work blends traditional influences with cinematic sound design and improvisation. Their track The Day That Broke Winter was featured on a 2024 compilation curated by Lankum for Uncut Magazine, highlighting leading contemporary Irish artists.
Max has performed extensively in Ireland and internationally, with appearances at venues such as The Cobblestone and festivals including Electric Picnic and Body & Soul. He has worked as a guitarist and dancer with Monsieur Pompier’s Travelling Freak Show, and toured internationally with Deirdre Murphy’s acclaimed Capitalism: The Musical, which was also presented at the Galway Theatre Festival.
His theatre work includes roles as sound designer, musical director, and performer, with productions such as The Gods of the Ozarks and Brutal Selfish Rattlesnake, the latter presented as part of an Abbey Theatre showcase. He co-produced A Clatter and Drone’s debut album Empty Buggy (2025).
Alongside his music practice, Max works as a model maker in film, a fine art painter, and a social entrepreneur. He has developed creative initiatives such as The Fix Jam and Mindblow Philosophy, reflecting his commitment to collaborative practice, experimentation, and alternative cultural spaces.
A multi-instrumentalist working with voice, guitar, electronics, and found sound, his work is rooted in immersive, exploratory approaches to sound and storytelling.
