Manukahunney

Soul // Bangor, Down // She/her

Heralded by Yeo Magazine as Northern Ireland's queen of soul, Siobhan Brown and the Manukahunney band inspire real human connection through the power of authentic music of black origins. She was born in London of Jamaican heritage and has been living most of her life in Bangor. Siobhan’s love for harmonic and rhythmic soul music is evident particularly when you see her perform live. Having performed her unique cover versions of classic soul, Motown, Northern soul and funk greats since 2012 this year she is launching a new EP, ‘My Dark Side’ and re-emerging as an original Indie Soul artist ready to tantalize the audiences ear drums with her dulcet vocals in a joyful celebration of diversity, unity, love and her creative spirit.

While her roots are in gospel her vision is to share soul in it’s many forms - funk, jazz, gospel, blues, contemporary etc with music that inspires the free flow of expression creating irresistible live soul vibes that are synonymous with every performance. With an eclectic range of influences that connect to Siobhan’s roots and extend out into her love for jazz, neo soul, strong rhythms & melodic chord structures and vocal harmonies, her original music connects to her musical roots and explores fusions with other genres that create her own unique soul blend.

Siobhan is a recent awardee of the prestigious MOBO Help Musician Fund, a mother of 3, a conservation architect and cultural awareness trainer. A leader of her own community choir and also a radio presenter on BBC radio Ulster for her own soul show ‘The Siobhan Brown Soul Show’ now in it’s 4th series finishing 23rd February 2023.

'Siobhan is a genuine musical trail blazer on the Northern Ireland scene. She has been a beacon of light and positivity and a passionate advocate for the power of soul music to change lives in the best possible way. You can hear that upbeat life enhancing positivity in every note of Overcomer. This is a deeply personal yet also universal release. As the song says it's all about overcoming the obstacles life throws at you and making the most of your God given skills and attributes....whatever age or experience you have or whatever your background or chosen identity. This is the music for everyone like all good music should be. Both on record and in the live arena she exudes soulfulness. Lyrically she speaks her truth fearlessly and she communicates her messages of hope and happiness with an ease that few can equal. This is an important release from a significant figure on our local music scene. Hopefully it's message will make it's way into the hearts of millions, it's certainly in mine' - Ralph McClean, BBC Radio Ulster
