Louise Gaffney

Alternative // Dublin, Dublin // she/her

Operating somewhere in the space between electronic and organic, West of Ireland based artist Louise Gaffney weaves an intricately layered sound made lush and warm through a string of analog machines. Balancing a DIY ambience with an undeniable pop nous, its heart worn firmly on its sleeve.
A vocalist and pianist primarily, but with a broad palate of synthesis, sampling and acoustic instrumentation, she released the sophomore ‘Slow Violence’ LP on a limited 10" vinyl in 2024 , a stripped back, honest offering building on the more beat driven cuts of her debut solo EP ‘Not Even Here’ released in 2021.

Alongside the physical LP, Louise collaborated with Irish director Anna Heisterkamp on a film captured on 16mm to accompany the title track single release. Hotpress featured the single release in it's New Irish Music section saying 'A dizzying array of soft vocals, delicate piano and warm analog sounds, the new single is a raw meditation on love, inaction, and slow damage.'

Louise premiered the live performance of Slow Violence at the Dublin Digital Radio curated festival Alternating Current in 2025 and subsequently with a larger band featuring Ruairi DeBurca and Ken McCabe at Feile Na Greine in Limerick. She will bring this show to Dublin's Bello Bar on May 29th, promoted by Foggy Notions (tickets are available through ticketmaster). She will also play the National Concert Hall in September (details announcing soon).

Press Quotes:

"There’s a feeling that emerges when something is almost gone: an anticipatory loss, a pre-emptive missing. It’s a sensation Louise Gaffney captures across the five tracks on Not Even Here, her debut solo work. Delicate synth motifs crumble as the production is ‘taped and re-taped’, removing all polish to let The Come On Live Long vocalist’s bittersweet words glide on gusts of emotional melody. The EP balances DIY ambience with an undeniable pop nous, its heart worn firmly on its sleeve. The title track will linger in your mind for days, conjuring a nostalgia for something not quite tangible. The remaining cuts curl out like smoke, calling you back like a diary entry you don’t remember writing."
