Thurles, County Tipperary
Barry Mc Loughlin aka Locklin is a musician from Thurles, Co.Tipperary.
I began my music career in 2005 when I was asked to join a local band in my town.
I played rhythm guitar and we called ourselves The Rumours
Having been heavily influenced by many bands and artists from the 60s through to the 90s from The
Beatles to Nirvana, we each had similar musical tastes and so we began performing which eventually led
on to writing, composing and recording.
I immediately loved the buzz of writing a song and seeing it go on its journey from the pen and paper, into the studio and onto a record. At some stage in 05 or 06 Jackie Hayden of Hotpress had chosen a demo of ours as “Demo of the Fortnight” and DJ Allison Curtis began giving the same demo some airtime on her show, which was on a Sunday night at the time, on Today FM, that really got the ball rolling for us.
That was late 2005 into early 2006 and by the time the summer of 2006 rolled in, we were given a slot at
the highly respected Electric Picnic Music Festival in Stradbally Co.Laois. We played a stormer of a set,
which was a dream come true, sharing the stage with Graham Coxon of Blur and Manic Street Preachers
among others. We were later invited back to play again in 2007, where this time we were rubbing
shoulders with Jonny Marr and Modest Mouse among others.
Later that year an Independent Record Company from Dublin, Reekus Records, got involved with us and we released our debut EP, the first track released as a single was Keep It Going, which I wrote and the first week we topped the Download charts in Ireland. Playing venues across Dublin, such as Whelans and the Sugar Club to Cypress Avenue in Cork and we also did a session up in the RTE Studios for a show on 2fm, we were enjoying our music and good times were had.
However the musical landscape was changing dramatically at the time and although somewhat in its
infancy, there was huge significance being put on downloads and social media presence etc etc, which we were unable to keep up with and by 2010/2011 we had called it a day.
Following a hiatus from the music world I have now spent the last number of years writing and performing, building up a collection of songs to create a setlist and so I began in early 2018, as Locklin,
recording by debut EP. This is due for release in August 2018, entitled Never Forget and will contain four tracks:
● Never Forget
● Humming Out Loud
● Two Shining Lights
● Good Times
In December 2018 I released a Christmas single entitled "Here We Go Again" which is available on Google Play with all proceeds from download going to BUMBLEance (video in this profile)
I began 2019 on a high by supporting Hermitage Green at The Source Arts Centre, Thurles, Co.Tipperary (video footage on this profile)
