Jillian O'Malley

Jillian O'Malley is a traditional flute player from Louisburgh, County Mayo. Her debut flute album, a vibrant collection of Mayo tunes old and new is available on Bandcamp, as of May 1st 2026. Jillian collaborated with Catherine McHugh (Piano), Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz (Cello), Macdara Ó Faoláin (Bouzouki) and Stephen Doherty (Bodhrán) to create a stunning album of 12 tracks.

"Congratulations, Jillian, on your brilliant solo flute album. Practically all of the music is Mayo-based and very well researched, highlighting old music from her own place and elsewhere in the county. The album brings to life the music, most of which would not have been heard or recorded in recent times.

Also included are a number of compositions in the traditional idiom which I think are consistent with the music of the past. All selections are played with decisive accuracy, pitching and wonderful tone, with tasteful accompaniment throughout.

It’s a top-class album! Jillian’s style is very much her own and her love of the music comes shining through!"
