Heron Red

Folk // Dublin, Dublin

With a sound that fuses vibes from The Waterboys, Dolly Parton, and Simon and Garfunkel, Heron Red is a dynamic folk duo with a full-band sound. The band blends traditional Irish music with Americana, country, and Traditional folk. Comprised of songwriters Molly Buchan and Callum Wall, the duo crafts music that ranges from stripped-back storytelling, echoing the poetic depth of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, to the soaring, full-bodied energy of The Waterboys and Planxty.

In 2025, the band played over 35 shows in renowned venues and festivals across Ireland, the UK, and Europe, from the intimate charm of De Barra’s in Clonakilty to the high ceilings of Cork City Hall, All Together Now in Waterford, Victorious festival in Portsmouth, and the influential Output festival in Belfast.

This past year, Heron Red's momentum has continued to grow, with over 5.5 million views on their TikTok page in just a few months, reflecting a rapidly expanding online following. Recent highlights include supporting Irish legends Bell X1 at Sligo's Hawk’s Well Theatre, and the release of their self-titled debut EP. This four-song EP was a great success for the band, amassing 60,000 streams to date since its release on the 14th of November 2025.

Heron Reds' plans to progress in 2026 are through continuing to tour throughout Europe and the Uk focusing more on showcase gigs, festivals, and major support slots. The band spent some time in the studio in December of 2025, recording three new tracks for release during the first half of 2026. Another exciting opportunity that will be seen for the band in 2026 arose last December, when the band was asked to feature and perform on Netflix's new show 'Grown Ups'. Written by Irish novelist, Marian Keyes, this show is set to air in summer 2026.

Heron Reds' Diverse Lineup

Heron Red is a musical project born from the creative spark between two incredible artists, Molly Buchan and Callum Wall. Both are well-known in the Irish indie scene for their successful solo careers, and after years of playing in each other’s bands, they decided to team up in the Fall of 2024. What started as a way to perform their folk, Irish trad, and singer-songwriter songs quickly gained attention, and before they knew it, they were playing shows every week all across Ireland. As the buzz grew, Molly and Callum knew it was time to take their collaboration seriously, and Heron Red was born.

What makes Heron Red so special is the ever-changing lineup. While they often perform as the original duo, their performances can range from intimate sets with accompaniment from the Tin Whistle, fiddle, and bodhrán to full-band experiences, including the lap steel, drums, and bass, depending on the venue and vibe. Every show feels fresh, and it’s this versatility that makes Heron Red’s sound so captivating.

In February of 2025, the band recorded their first four-track EP in JeJune Studios with Daniel de Burca. These four tracks were recorded over a weekend with Cam Teehan on drums, Josh Hachett on guitar, mandolin, and lap steel, and Domhnall Roe on Fiddle.
