After a 12 year hiatus from recording, Belfast native Dave McConnell returned to the studio in 2025 with no grand plans - just one song that needed to exist. What began as a modest single session with producer Michael Bell at Start Together Studios quickly expanded into an EP "Many as One" and a soon to be released full-length album.
With that Good Swim is born, with a bloodline reminiscent of Bright Eyes and Damien Rice, through to the Dust Bowl Americana of Wilco and the soft melodies of Iron and Wine.
Latest single “Sink Like a Stone” takes a rueful look at a relationship gone bad and how the hate that brings can poison every part of you.
And it’s all your own fault.
McConnell’s vulnerable falsetto vocal combines with jangling guitars and haunting cello, building to a thrashing crescendo.
With the upcoming album "The Mountains Sure Don't Give A Damn About The Sea" (out October 30th), Good Swim establishes itself with a set of songs to draw hope in - an uncensored snapshot of perseverance and courage. The album moves through melody and melancholy, charting the geography of loss and detachment that defines our current moment. The songwriting on the record is raw and personal, tackling themes of loneliness and loss, hope and hopelessness.
