Girlypop emerges from the unlikely collaboration between two Gemini Risings with an Aquarius Midheaven. Separated by a vast ocean, they found ways to collaborate online and create eurodance-inspired tracks. Their shared love for techno, raves, breakbeat, and all things cool is reflected in the fresh music they make. youyousolo and nicenora are both originally from Mexico, and after a few months of separation, they are now both based in Ireland, where Girlypop has found its home.
Girlypop’s first single, “missing pangea,” was released on February 6 across streaming platforms. It is a eurodance track that combines the creative minds of nicenora and youyousolo. nicenora delivers vocals with lyrics that evoke the existential dread of realizing that traditional ways of experiencing life, and especially partnerships, are becoming obsolete. As people are increasingly encouraged, and sometimes forced, to move across the globe in pursuit of their dreams. She presents these vocals in a high-energy glitchpop style and introduces synths inspired by hyperpop.
youyousolo crafts the track’s impetuous drums and bass, giving it a bounce that drives listeners to the dancefloor by blending elements of eurotrance and house music. In “missing pangea,” youyousolo creates a distinctly modern Age-of-Aquarius atmosphere by structuring the track in a way reminiscent of old-school dance music.
Girlypop’s next single will be released as the sun warms the Northern Hemisphere. Titled “crisis,” it continues the conceptual thread of “missing pangea,” where existentialism meets nihilism, but with hope, represented by a catchy, bouncy eurodance backdrop. For now, Girlypop’s focus is on entering the European music scene through late-night DJ sets, while daylight hours are dedicated to creating a debut EP that musically represents the headspace of global humanity.
