Guardian New Band Of The Week

Ones to watch 2014 - The Fly

5 Stars - The Irish Times

"Clocking in at a fearsome six minutes, “Lawman” pits a martial drum stomp against brown-note frequencies that feel like intestinal blockage and hi-hat accents that sound like they’re being played on circular saws, all the while frontman Dara Kiely makes like a young, easily agitated Stephen Malkmus suffering an existential crisis in the midst of studying for his mid-terms as a death-disco revival party rages in the dorm room next door. There were no survivors."

Their new single “Lawman”, which is coming out as a Limited 7', boasts no-wave muttering over a cacophony of defribrilated guitar, as the instruments are forced to glitch and burp within an inch of their lives.

It's a track that rears its head and exhales flames, using soaring bass notes for the most sinister of purposes.

"gnarly alternative to moon eyed psychadelia, chanelling the sick lurch of Nirvana and Mudhoney through Pissed Jeans' cleverly gormless humour" NME

"The unexpected venue of Against the Grain also held one of this year’s best gigs, by the infamous Dubliner four-piece Girl Band, who I had heard off but not actual ‘heard off’ till Sunday and I left Against the Grain with my heart an inch lower in my chest, thanks to the jammed packed, tiny space where Girl Band blasted out a literally deafening set." "Second One is a fantastic blast of punky fury and righteous energy." The Irish Times

"Taken from the ingeniously-named France ‘98 EP, ‘You’re A Dog’ is the perfect introduction to fearless neo-grungers Girl Band, on the off-chance that you haven’t yet heard the masterful noise rock these four Dubliners produce." Hot Press

"90 seconds of delirious, well turned-out punk rock venom and hardcore frenzy from this most promising Dublin act".- Jim Carroll (On The Record)
