Dr. Mindflip shake up a refreshing, complex cocktail - delivering a hefty dose of what Synthesis Magazine called “avant-pop...with teeth”. Their theatrical performances and chameleonic musical stylings have quickly made them a cult favourite around Ireland and beyond – with over 25,000 downloads of their music released on the American netlabel blocSonic.
The playful psychedelia of a live Dr. Mindflip show is a truly unique experience. The doctor and his masked musicians are the Lynchian lounge band of your dreams - undulating between jazzy avant-pop ditties and wild outer-space improvisations. The antics of characters such as the aristocratic Owly, the soulful saxophone-wielding Sage, and the gently unnerving Dollhead ensure that no two Dr. Mindflip gigs are the same.
2017 was a busy year for the band. Their new interactive movie The Improbable End of Owly premiered at Electric Picnic in a custom-built performance carriage that was, like their accompanying gig in the Trailer Park area, filled to capacity. A DVD release is on the cards for 2018.
Their dangerously extravagant full-length debut album was funded successfully on Kickstarter in May - raising 315% of its target. Mastered by a Grammy award-winning engineer, Roominations: An Unofficial Parody is a trip deep into the heart of a cinematic catastrophe – a psychedelic rock opera based on the worst movie ever made - and was released on Valentine's Day 2018.
Dr. Mindflip are currently preparing for their summer tour of the festival circuit - with shows in Vantastival, Electric Picnic, Arcadian Field, Stendhal, Secret Village, Cruthú Arts Festival, AKA Fringe, Clifden Arts Festival, and more to be announced...
