The Music:
I started out this project, 'Dordy', in my final year of University. Procrastination at it's finest...
A brief history of time, and what's to come:
Project No. 1 - It's Equal, Or Tragedy:
The majority of these songs were old, from before my college days... While the music is there, it lacks sharpness - I never bothered mastering it - it was recreational.
A small few, 4 or 5 if I remember correctly, I recorded in my final year of University... The voice lacks confidence throughout, but I was proud of (some) of the lyrics... Other lyrics, when I listen back 3 years later, are awful!! All that said though, I gathered them up and threw them out there... One short Facebook post, and I thought nothing more of it...
Looking back, I think one or two of these songs will be re-written and recorded again, and possibly get a spot on the new album...
Project No. 2 - A Cold Wave:
I had the bug again... With No. 1, I might not have took the BR900 out of the box for 2 or 3 years... But now, I found myself writing again...
I found myself writing about one or two topics... It was pretty straightforward... I spent a bit more time on this one, but I never really thought too much about it... I'd got a job and life was good... It was still just a little project that nobody really knew about - not even the majority of my friends...
Songs like 'Take My Hand' though, stood out online (in a very minor sense) and got some good feedback... I started putting a bit more money into the whole thing; some new instruments, mastering, online stuff etc.
It was all very exciting for about a week, and I forgot about it again...
Project No. 3 - Same Day Tomorrow
I'd thought this was my best so far... Maybe it was... But the odd time that I listen back to it, I can't help hearing some mistakes, and speaking of 'Mistakes', some lazy lyrics...
The whole album was recorded one week in December, when I took holidays from work, returned to Letterkenny, turned my bedroom into a recording studio... the result is what you hear.
With this, I definitely think I produced the whole thing better... I was getting the hang of it - in the serious sense. It was still recreation, but I definitely wanted to do it right... Almost made it, but I cannot accept the finished product...
Project No. 4 - The Decay Of Everything But You:
Just out... It is what it is... Not really had a chance to think too much about this one yet...
The Progression:
I got my first electric guitar, an Encore Strat of some sort, at the age of 11... My sister had started taking lessons a few months before and I was piggy-backing off her the first chords she learned... I decided then to go off on my own, thinking of 'Money for Nothing', 'Peel Out' and any number of old tapes the old man had in the car...
I taught myself some songs off some tabs - dial up internet would not allow any Youtube videos or the likes. I found I had an ear and started playing along with anything, and improvising over the top... Scales came easy, keeping in tune came easy, and I found writing music came easy... Creativity though... Still fighting with that, and hope I never win...
I got a new Washburn one Christmas, one or two years later... Started working at 16 and finally, had my own money... New Amp, distortion pedal, mic and a Boss BR900CD... A lot of money, and needless to say the parents were none too pleased, but I suppose they understood...
I recorded a few covers, and eventually my own music... It was purely recreational, and never really thought much of it... Played in a few bands through secondary school, guitar and bass, and started dabbling with the keyboard... the banjo, mandolin, ukulele, drums and sax all came later...
Loved it all, but it took a while to find my voice, or at least the confidence to give it a go... I'll be the first to admit, I'm no talent!
The albums above, in themselves, round up the story...
The progression continues...
Peace out...
