David Colohan

As a composer, songwriter and improvisor, David has been involved in the international underground folk and experimental music scenes for over two decades. As a founding member of the United Bible Studies collective, he has collaborated with a global network of like-minded musicians. Operating under his own name and through projects such as Raising Holy Sparks and Agitated Radio Pilot, his work explores the intersection of landscape, folklore and memory, themes which are also central to his work in film, as a director and soundtrack composer. His approach to film and music is a kind of progressive folk minimalism, moving between complex expansive forms and more intimate ones.

Recent releases include Strange Is The Coastline by United Bible Studies which came out on LP & CD. A 7'' with Ryan Shirlow was released by Fenny Compton.

David is currently working on several new projects.

• Musics From Summerisle (2023): Part of the group celebrating the 50th anniversary of
The Wicker Man film at London's Barbican.
• Moog Sound Lab - Ace Hotel, London (2015): Invited performer for the Moog-sponsored
residency, showcasing modular synthesized soundscapes
• International Touring: Extensive headlining and collaborative tours across the United
States, Continental Europe, and the United Kingdom, performing in venues ranging from
cathedrals to experimental DIY spaces.

Film & Curation

• Soundtracks: Contributed songs and scores to several short & feature length films.
• Still Voices Film Festival: Long-term term involvement in the programming and
organisation of Longford’s international film festival.
• Filmmaking: Creator of short films that mirror many of the themes in his musical
compositions.
