Cú Ulaid (hound of ulster, translated from irish) is the solo project of Kev Gall, bass player of The Pox Men and Dogmandü.
As a member of the Celtic folk punk band "the Pox men", for over ten years they have played at some of the largest and smallest festivals around Ireland e.g. Electric picnic, vantastival, stendhal, knockinstockin etc. And have supported well known acts, such as the Horslips (twice), Duke Special, The Mary Wallopers, Cruachan, and most recently the Outcasts ( July 2025)
Since the summer of 2020, he has been writing and recording his own style of bucaneer folk punk under the title Cú Ulaid ( hound of ulster), in which he took inspiration from story's and legends of pirates in Ireland and the rest of the world and influence from artists such as Horslips, Thin Lizzy, Alan Stivvell, Steeleyespan etc.
He plays a wide variety of folk and electric instruments.
After releasing his first single and eventual self-titled debut album. By the end of 2020 his debut single " The swashbuckler" was in the top 5 of the" international pirate O'music charts" for several months,
As well as Billy Bones top 25.
He has also received an award for best debut song and was in 10th place for the overall best new pirate songs of 2020. Since then he has released a follow up album called "A Tale or Two" (2022) and gets steady airtime on pirate radio shows based in florida, Canada, Germany, Italy, France and England. Currently working on a third album. Tis' Buccaneer Folk Punk, so it is.
