Christophe Capewell

Christophe Capewell is a multi-instrumentalist composer, session musician, recording artist and producer who has written music for radio, film, circus and theatre and has recorded on almost 100 albums. After the brief success of folktronica band Spool (Irish Times album of the week, Dec 06), he became one of the founding members of travelling folk collective The Rubber Wellies, described by BBC Radio 2's Mike Harding as "One of my favourite bands in recent years" with whom he recorded 4 albums and toured the world extensively. Two of their songs have been recently used in Damian McCarthy’s Oddity (2024) and Hokum (2026). He recorded and toured with Lisa O’Neill for almost a decade, recording 3 albums including Heard a Long Gone Song (The Guardian's 2019 Folk Album of the Year). He also played on Rock the Machine (RTE Original Folk song of the year 2019) and Blackbird (featured on Peaky Blinders 2022) and performed in venues including The London Palladium, The Abbey Theatre, Vicar Street, The Olympia Theatre, Cambridge Folk Festival, IMMA and the National Gallery of Ireland. He currently collaborates with a number of other artists and an album of self-penned compositions is due to be released this year, with the help of an Arts Council Agility Award. He is also one of the current artists in residence in Ardgillan Castle studios.
