Charles Monod

Traditional // Doolin, Clare // He/Him

Charles Monod is a traditional musician (concertina and tin whistle), teacher and producer based in Doolin, Co. Clare. Originally from Switzerland, he first came to Doolin in 2006 and developed a deep grá for Irish traditional music, eventually making it his life and work. He is a graduate of the MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick.

Charles is an active and dedicated teacher, offering one-to-one lessons both in person locally and online to students around the world, as well as group classes for children, teenagers and adults. He is the co-founder of Club Ceoil, a community-based programme supporting young musicians in the north Clare area. His teaching focuses on inclusiveness, building musical confidence, promoting local repertoire and fostering a strong sense of community.

Alongside teaching, Charles is deeply involved in producing and promoting traditional music in Clare. He curates The Attic Sessions concert series at Hotel Doolin and has been involved in organising events such as the Russell Festival Weekend. Through his Tunes From Doolin project — including its podcast, YouTube channel and the Russells of Doolin website — he documents local repertoire, shares stories, and provides accessible resources for learners and listeners.

As a performer, Charles plays regularly across north Clare and collaborates with many local musicians. His style is shaped by years of immersion in the region’s music and by a strong commitment to sharing and sustaining its tradition.
