Banjo Dave

Alternative // Belfast, Antrim

Banjo Dave is a Belfast-based but Derby-born musician who specialises (unsurprisingly) on the 5-string banjo. Originally a guitarist, Dave was converted to the banjo in 2007 and has been exploring its possibilities ever since.

To get that bluesy, old-time sound, Dave plays two banjos that are over 100 years old. His repertoire moves between traditional Appalachian music, original interpretations of old-style tunes and even the occasional classical piece.

Dave can often be found performing at sessions, gigs and open mic nights around Belfast and beyond. His playing is driven by a fascination with the history of the instrument and the stories carried in traditional music.

Alongside his solo work, Dave is also the banjo player for the Belfast group Folkadelic. He is currently developing a new banjo-led recording project featuring collaborations with local musicians.
