Banba is an experimental electronic music project, originating from the Dublin mountains.
Formed in 2020, Banba mixes a multitude of electronic genres, creating sonic textures and psychedelic layers, by manipulating samples from vinyls, cassettes, CDs and obscure sounds from the internet.
The tracks range from down tempo grooves, dusty Lo-fi beats, to uplifting rave euphoria. Each release touching different genres, but carrying the same authentic Banba style.
Influenced by a contrasting range of genres, from artists such as Thin Lizzy to Bonobo, Four Tet and Calibre.
Banba is a solo project, fronted by Gav. A multi instrumentalist who became infatuated with music from an early age.
Beginning with drums, classical guitar, and joining choirs throughout school. Gav currently plays drums in a band with a group of friends which formed in 2011.
Despite the live music scene being restricted at the time, Banba was able to perform the projects first ever live performance in December 2021, with an hour original set at Super Sonic Sand Live:
"Supersonic Sand LIVE incorporating beautiful sand artscapes, live electronic music performances from 7 Irish artists all ending with a firework display on a beautiful natural backdrop.
This event at Kilmurrin Cove on The Copper Coast in Waterford is part of Winter Firedance – Solstice 2021 being funded as part of the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in association with Waterford City & County Council’s Arts Service. "
Banba had the projects debut Whelans show in January 2023, and announced their upcoming EP Meabhru tapes, which samples spoken word into a 5 track meditative electronic experience.
Banba is currently working on releasing a single per month, and curating an original setlist for upcoming performances.
