Ava Brogan

Folktronica // Leitrim // She/her

Multi-instrumentalist and producer Ava Brogan has unlocked the portal to hyper-folk and pagan pop, with her signature guttural bass, hypnotic harping, and glimmering vocals. Flooding the senses with shimmering playfulness, her music holds the spirit of ancient Ireland and modern camp culture. Be careful or this bimbo pagan princess will lure you into the fairy realm with her eccentric avant-pop sound and mystifying energy.

Ava was immersed in Traditional Irish music throughout her childhood, winning multiple awards in prestigious competitions including the All-Ireland Fleadh, and All-Ireland Scór finals, and performing in front of large audiences in venues like The Waterfront Hall, Belfast. Not only is she an accomplished harpist, but also a talented pianist, vocalist, button accordion and concertina player. In recent years she has been weaving her Trad expertise into a newfound ethereal production style, taking inspiration from her musical idols Björk, Caroline Polacheck, and Kate Bush. Ava merges ancient cultural roots with futuristic electronic elements, with an article by A&R Factory stating, "Brogan’s current sound is drenched in the spirit of Tír na nÓg and charged with the queerness of a new generation." She remains authentic to herself in every aspect of her art, which is clear to see during live performances, as she bedazzles audiences with her celestial aura and flamboyant outfit ensembles. Ava often uses tales from Celtic mythology to explore themes of connection to nature, the otherworld, femininity, and queerness, which can be seen in her second single ‘Leannán Sídhe (just can’t stay away)’ - a song about a Celtic fairy who seduces a human lover and then drains them of all their energy in order to survive - which was described as “Kate Bush having a séance” on BBC Introducing. Like the fairies do, Ava Brogan's music serves as a reminder to honour and respect the land.
