Aoife Moriarty

Neofolk // Dublin, Dublin // She/her

Aoife Moriarty is an independent singer songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist based in Dublin, Ireland. Her music blends a jazz folk sensibility with impressionistic lyrics, drawing from acoustic storytelling traditions, indie pop, and a theatrical streak rooted in her experience as a costume and set designer. She also holds an MFA in Fashion Design.

Raised in the suburbs of Dublin and classically trained before veering into songwriting, Aoife spent years teaching by day and learning instruments and production at night. She later stepped away from teaching to complete an MA in Music Technology at the University of Limerick, where her thesis took the form of a live performance with voice and live electronics inspired by Frankenstein (2012).

After releasing her debut album Dolls and Jigsaws in 2009 to critical acclaim, Aoife continued writing but lacked the means to record new work. A decade and a half later, and after what she describes as “a lot of living,” she returns with Artefact (working title), a forthcoming album written entirely on guitar, her “other” instrument. The work was supported in part by the Basic Income for the Arts scheme, which gave her the time and space to pursue music full time over the past 3.5 years. The songs explore memory, longing, childlessness, absurdity, and love in its stranger forms, with arrangements that nod to classic folk, vintage rock, and jazz.

Releasing Dodo, Overlove and Dark Secret in 2025, Aoife returned to the stage with a stripped back show in Whelan's and a renewed sense of purpose, sharing songs that took years to complete. She released Gowns in February 2026. The album will be released in September/October 2026.
