Al Keogh

Folk // Dublin

I am a singer-songwriter from Ireland, with a long history of playing in rock bands. I feel in the digital era people have somewhat lost their connection with music (bring back vinyl and cassettes!!), which is what made me pick up my acoustic guitar again. I am finally regaining that connection with music I felt I had long lost!

I grew up between County Dublin and County Meath in Ireland and still love spending as much time as I can in the Irish countryside, I surf (badly) when I can. I have been songwriting pretty much as far back as I can remember - before I knew what I was doing or could even play in instrument. With my parents and grandfathers influence I was surrounded by great music as a child - Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Django Reinhardt , Talking Heads, John Martyn, Tom Waits etc. My grandfather had a music school and a long career playing sax/clarinet/accordion and keys in big bands and jazz groups. I learned a huge amount from him having lived with him for many years.

I’m not going to say I think my music is revolutionary, I’m not going to say that it’s going to change the world. It is what it is. If it makes one person smile each day, well then it’s done its job. Even if that person is me.

Close your eyes, listen, enjoy.
