The Dead Heavys
Waterford City , County Waterford
It is a rare thing to find a band that unequivocally writes and produces tracks that not only appeal to the average ear but to the men in suits behind big US TV shows such as Shameless US. This show in particular pulls in on average 1.5 million viewers per episode and it was in episode 1, season 7 on 2nd Oct 2016 that The Dead Heavys’ track “Liquidator” was featured proving once again that this band possess that rare thing, quality.
With their minds solidly working throughout much of 2015 and 2016 on producing their highly anticipated debut album, The Dead Heavys’ lads still managed to effortlessly pull in a signing with Hitcher Music in LA and London who recognised the talent in the compositions that these guys had already put together. By late 2016 another sync was made with “Everybody In the Nite” being snapped up by another US TV show, The Real O’Neals proving once again that The Dead Heavys have what it takes to make a great track.
Much closer to home and national supermarket chain, Supervalu nabbed the band’s track “Lazarus” via Avant Music Port’s sync licensing services, who spun it out as the perfect accompaniment to their radio, tv and social media campaigns around Ireland. The signing of Lazarus was originally agreed for a three week period back in March 2016 but a new deal was struck soon after to run the tune out the rest of the year as it was quickly acknowledged that it was attention grabbing and yes you guessed it, class.
Lifting their heads momentarily in 2016 to take a break from recording, The Dead Heavys delivered some live performances around the country including an Electric Picnic showdown on the Body&Soul stage late into the night September 4th. One such 2016 performance was grabbed and reviewed by Marky Edison of Musos Guide who wrote:
‘.. The Dead Heavys have understandable confidence in their abilities, individually and as a group. It’s tricky enough to write a decent song, trickier again to make music that gets people dancing. The ability to do both simultaneously is a rare talent and should be treasured when it is found…These guys are on another level.’
To date the band has played Croatia’s INMusic Festival alongside Arctic Monkeys & Basement Jaxx; independently released their material including debut single “Everybody In The Nite” which gained the band some influential fans in the UK and John Robb (The Guardian/Louder Than War) noted them as a band that
“could easily grab the attention of a stadium full of fans or even the charts”.
XFM’s Eddy Temple Morris championed their music on his popular show whilst musicians such as The Enemy’s Tom Clarke & Jon McClure from Reverend & the Makers also took note and very happily plugged them. Other tracks, “The New Age of Innocence” and “Uptight” also achieved significant airplay success and the band was chosen from 800 Guinness Amplify acts by deputy editor at HotPress, Mr. Stuart Clark. In 2015 a PureMzine award was picked up for best single of the year with “Liquidator”.
The Dead Heavys have toured Ireland with shows in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Sligo and of course Waterford and a UK tour in 2017 is now fast approaching. With serious planning on live shows making its way into the schedule as the finishing touches are being applied to the new material it is no wonder that people are chomping at the bit to see just how high these guys can raise the bar on their next round of quality tracks, sheer brilliance and classy live performances. With Sentric working as their European publisher and a pending “Everybody In the Nite” feature in a movie trailer for Handsome Devil at this year’s International Film Festivals (again, another Avant Music Port piece of handiwork), The Dead Heavys is a thinking musos crumpet of a band and most definitely one to watch for 2017.
Just some of the reviews so far:
John Robb of LOUDER THAN WAR - "The Dead Heavys deal a psychedelic-tinged guitar-pop that could easily grab a whole stadium full of post Oasis fans as well as the charts."
Barry Gruff – "The Dead Heavys debut EP is funky indie rock, tinged with a psychedelic edge that walks that 'indie/pop' line ever so well."
"The Dead Heavys continue to grow, adding further weight to all those attributes which stood them out from the crowd from day one."
James Ward of THE IRISH MIRROR – "With their daring and irresistibly catchy dance pop grooves Waterford schemers The Dead Heavys are fast becoming ones to watch on the Irish music scene."

DUBLINCONCERTS.IE – "Somewhere between bands that attempt to hark back to classic rock days and hipster bands that simply try too hard to be unique, there's a very slim line that manages to balance both aspirations but in a fantastic and effective manner."
"As they took to the stage, we were overwhelmed by the sheer talent and their wonderfully written and catchy songs...a joy to listen to and the band seemed to enjoy every second of their performance and they were right to. The Dead Heavys kicked the night off with such a bang and these guys are most definitely a band to watch out for."
STATE.IE – "Some new music for you now and this is something pretty special.....This is 'Liquidator' by The Dead Heavys and it is as good a song as you'll hear from these shores this year...."
