Winners of best album 2012 at the MRU Awards, The Radioactive Grandma are a three-piece acoustic rock band with a harmonic indie-pop style. Originally from Dublin and Peterborough, UK, the band are now based in Co. Cavan, writing a unique brand of originals with nothing more than two guitars and a box!
Independently releasing their debut album last year, Johno Leader (vocals, acoustic guitar), Peter Donohoe (electric guitar, vocals) and Ben McCarthy (cajon, vocals) were picked up by newly established independent label, Chew Your Own Fat Records. This collaboration coincided with the launch of The Radioactive Grandma’s self titled album released in December 2012.
Since the announcement of their title ‘Best Album 2012’, the three-piece Cavan-based band have now released their first official music video ‘Another Wasted Line’ which is taken from their album and is now available to view here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=NIMRvM87TWU
Since it's release on December 19th 2012; Another Wasted Line, which was featured on ‘MUZU Recommends’ has received over 4,000 views and continues to thrive receiving international attention.
TRG's self produced album has won critical acclaim from nationwide media nationwide including leading track ‘The Game’ being added to the play-lists of 2FM’s Dave Fanning. ‘Robot Song’ was chosen and featured on 2FM DJ Dan Hegarty’s show, and TRG's album was chosen as one of his 'Top 100 irish albums of 2012' with a number of spot plays on RTE 1, Beat 102 , Dublin City FM, West Dublin Access Radio and Ocean FM to name but a few. Via public choice, The Radioactive Grandma were also selected and featured on leading music blog Nialler9 ‘Best New Irish Bands’ , and ‘The Game’ also listed as ‘Favorite Songs of 2012’ by Dublin Unsigned.
Beginning 2013 on a high, the Cavan trio are set to tour Ireland and the UK including a number of festival appearances.
