THE JACK OF SPADES

Acoustic // castleblaney, Monaghan

Before the JACK OF SPADES began in 2008. Only being a 2 piece band made up by Johnny O’Callaghan (on vocals and guitar) and Ciara Mc Ardle (on vocals and some key board playing). They tended to gig in pubs doing covers for a few extra pound but their main passion is producing their own music. The pair are in the process of putting an amazing EP together. Their voices entwined together in harmonies, makes this duo one to watch out for. Johnny started playing guitar at the age of 7.His voice resembles that of James Morrison, it’s quite husky but distinct in its own way. Johnny had been in numerous bands in cork where he is originally from before he moved to Monaghan were he met Ciara. Johnny is a prerhial song writer. His indie songs will appeal to the David Grey, Damien Rice devotes. Johnny himself is inspired greatly by Damien Rice. Minimalist indie style in its purest. Ciara has being singing since she can remember. She went to college in Dublin to study Performance Arts, which has given her alot of experience performing. Her vocal style allows her natural Monaghan accent to come through and at times she has some of the infectious tones of Juliet Turner and the soul of Mary Coughlan. Ever since Ciara won “Song of the Fortnight” 5 years ago in Hotpress magazine, it give her the confidence to sing in a few bands in Dublin before she met up with Johnny O’Callaghan. They are both glad this pairing came about. They are two gifted, nTURl performers, they have little problems connecting with a audience, with a likeable persona developed from their life experiences and Johnny’s busking on the street. The production of their E.P makes the listener feel that Johnny & Ciara are right there in the room with you. Their songs leave a lasting impression. The songs are beautiful with alot of knowledge in them, being personal and expressive songs that demand your attention as a listener. The honest and earnest songwriting is enjoyed and best listened to by yourself preferably late in the evening with a glass of bubbly.
