The Dirty Valentines

New Wave // Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

The Dirty Valentines are:

Bev King - Drums

Colin McCann - Bass

Liam Murphy - Guitar & Vocals

Having formed together in 2010 through necessity with regards the blandness and pretentiousness of polished modern music today, this Dublin/Wicklow 3 piece have amassed a whirlwind of hype in their native towns and also on the Dublin gig circuit.

Created as a direct reaction towards the networking 'clique' element of the Irish music scene, they are destined to a fate of adversity before triumph. Their music has raw and ballsy rock, grunge, blues and funk elements, pollocked with a dose of punk sensibility and lyrics about 17 year old shemales, vanilla thighs, pink cadillacs, prescription drugs, liquor, Bettie Page, smiling lions, silver tongues, indigo lips and economic bomb scares.

Their live shows have been described as juggernaut sessions without the posturing or smiling or fakery. Instead, just good, honest dirty music about the finer things in life. An ever expanding fan base and also celebrity support from the likes of Nirvana's Krist Novoselic and Lucid Nation's Tamra Spivey has etched the groups name into the minds of the youth of Dublin and Wicklow.

2011 currently sees the band in JMR Studios, cutting their first EP : '21st Century Dandies'.

The future is both bright and pink for The Dirty Valentines......

“I’m glad that me and Krist Novoselic agree on one thing at least, Dublin noise-merchants The Dirty Valentines. Not long after they appeared in this very column (then called The Valentinos) Krist was admiring their video for ’Hand Me My Heart’, although he was not happy with their bed-making standards. The band took that to heart, now make their bed properly and have a new five track EP available for free download at http://thedirtyvalentines.bandcamp.com/

‘Lip Liquor’ is a nifty charmer with alt-country overtones. It has chiming guitars and tasty licks and a cute melody to boot. But don’t let the charm fool you, for ‘Hand Me My Heart’ is a full-on post-grunge retro-rocker, with crunching guitars, a fine solo, zapping bass, punchy drums and great vocals. It shifts up the gears towards the end for a celebratory climax. ”

— Jackie Hayden, Hot Press review

"This rocks!!!!!! I want see that bed made up though."

- Krist Novoselic, ex-Nirvana on 'Hand me my Heart' video

"I like! Like somebody took The Raincoats, JJ Cale and Jesus and Mary Chain and blended them into something new..."

- Tamra Spivey of Lucid Nation
