Mullingar, County Westmeath
The Academic are a 4 piece band from Mullingar, Co.Westmeath. School friends, Craig , Dean and brothersMatt and Stephen have been playing together since there were in their early teens but formally came together as The Academic at the end of 2013. With a natural ability to write great songs and play great live, it wasn't too long before their talent was being recognised both in Ireland and abroad. In the past 12 months the band have played at Other Voices, played major festivals such as Longitude, Electric Picnic, Indiependence, Benicassim in Spain, HWCH, as well as opening for bands like The Pixies (Live At The Marquee), Kodaline and Little Green Cars. The band also played their first London shows to packed out nights at Club NME in Camden's famours Koko venue as well as being invited to play the legendary club night for Communion Records in Notting Hill. The Academic finished off 2014 with a nationwide tour supporting Delorentos. Al this and the band have not even released a record. Their debut release is expected in the spring of 2015.
