Hailing from Waterford, Shane Barry has created one of the freshest and skillfully crafted debut albums to appear out of these shores in recent years. If you can imagine ORANGE JUICE playing the songs of JOE STRUMMER then you wouldn't be far off. The album RADIO FRICTION was itself mastered by STUART HAWKES of AMY WINEHOUSE fame and produced by Barry.
The distractions combine tight rhythms with a killer brass section, leaving just the right amount of space for Barry's very distinctive voice and guitar playing, PAUL WESTERBURG would spring to mind on first listen.
This is just an introduction to Shane and the Distractions ,who recently completed an Irish tour to promote their new split vinyl only 7' release A MAN CALLED GERALD on primate records and available from all shows and from www.myspace.com/shanebarryofficial
The new single KITES, which will be available from itunes and downloadmusic.ie (july 12th), has been receiving great press and radio play on promo release and will be preceded by a full tour/radio/tv promo campaign.
