RORY GRUBB
DUBLIN /, COUNTY CLARE
It's accepted that the 60's-renaissance for singer-songwriters in Ireland has come and gone over the past decade. Now we hear a new wave of folk music that relates more to our present day, our current climate and probably the death of our great Celtic Tiger.
For Irish artists it is now survival of the innovative. Who can build anew from the rubble? And who fades away pining for glory days? As the landscape of Irish music warps, it seems that Clare-native Rory Grubb is an artist well-capable of surviving in it and taking a new approach.
Rory Grubb has been active on the Irish circuit and internationally for the past 5 years. Having lived and toured in Ireland, the UK, Spain and Canada - he has clocked-up alot of mileage in various underground scenes.
Grubb writes simple songs and marries them with complex music, attempting to find an otherness within the limits of acoustic intstruments and the English launguage. His live shows and released material offer an odd, serene, and often meditative perspective - which show that you don’t have to make a lot of noise to be heard.
This summer Grubb has released his 2nd full length album, "Sketches From The Big Sleep", with a sell out-show in Whelan's and a nationwide tour to promote the album in July.
It is a convincing and touching body of work, that was self-recorded and produced on a shoestring, and is already generating interest among the irish press.
2009 is already proving a fruitful year for Rory Grubb; expect to hear more things in the coming months of this man and his music.
