American, alt-folk artist Jon Hughes has been based in Galway for the past five years, where he has recorded three studio albums.

His second album, Voices From a Broken Window, was released in July 2009, and it has received much praise from critics. Russell Hill of Maverick Magazine said that Voices From a Broken Window “is by all means a contemporary classic.” He goes on to say that “the acoustic picking [on the track “Sweet Negligence”] is that stonking I had to listen to this song twice to grasp its genius.” Jackie Hayden of Hotpress chose Voices From a Broken Window as his “Pick of the Fortnight” saying that “you could luxuriate forever in Hughes’ self-harmonised voices...Could be a biggie if he takes the right turns.”

His new album , Dead Weight, was released in January of 2011 and is already receiving praise from critics.

Hughes has performed both in the US and Ireland. A recent show in Dublin saw him share a stage with Damien Jurado.
