I am a self sufficient singer/songwriter who has gone on from busking the streets of Belfast to playing at NO.10 Downing Street. “If sawn choruses and big hitting pop songs are your thing, then Ben is the artist missing from your playlist” Taylor Johnson (BBC Introducing).
May 13th 2022 marked the release of my first single of the year “Take The Bullet”, which received great reviews from NI’s no.1 commercial radio station Cool FM, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Ulster. Featuring on Cool FM’s “Cool Of Rock”, Paul Kennedy said “One of the best local songs I’ve heard in a long time…”. I followed this success by releasing my highly anticipated tracks “Heart Of Mine” and “Running” which both enjoyed rave reviews.
In March of 2019, I headlined my first sold out show at McHughes Bar, and last September I headlined a second sold out city center show; achievements which pay testament to the many years I spent honing my craft on the streets of Belfast. Aged 12, I entered the ‘Banbridge Buskfest’ and won the under 16s category. Aged 13, I featured in the UK Song Academy Songwriters competition and performed at their winners showcase in London. Tom Odell said, “Yeah! what an energy.. keep writing!” and Jamie Theakston said I have a “big career ahead”. I returned to 'Buskfest' two years later, performing alongside over 200 musicians to win the overall award.
Festivals have always been my favorite place to perform. A highlight was in 2019 when I warmed up the crowd at Holywood Harmony just before Feeder took to the stage. I have also played Sunflowerfest, Fiddler’s Green Festival and Wild Roots in Sligo. With the return of live music in 2021, I was invited to play the Main Stage at Camp Dalfest on an impressive bill including Tom Odell, Amy MacDonald and Nik Kershaw.
Later in 2021, I was selected as 1 of 5 singer-songwriters to take part in the “21 Artists for the 21st Century Mentoral Programme” where I was mentored by Naoimi Hamilton from Jealous Of The Birds and artist Manager, Declan Legge. The project was brought to an end with a performance at the Lyric Theatre followed by an invite to play for a VIP audience at NO.10 Downing Street. A highlight of my career so far.
To date, I have been fortunate enough to support some incredible musicians. Over the last couple of months, I have been opening for multi award winning blues and folk artist Dom Martin. playing iconic venues such as ‘Whelan’s Dublin’ and ‘Voodoo’ in Belfast. In 2018 I supported one of my heroes, Gareth Dunlop, and was invited on stage by Gareth to duet on his infamous track ‘Wrap Your Arms Around Me’ - a moment I will never forget.
I am currently in the writing and production process for my debut EP ‘Break The Ice’ which is scheduled for release late this summer. The EP includes a unique blend of empowering rock ‘n’ roll with an authentic blues edge as well as some softer melodic tracks with hooks that will leave you singing along for days.
