My Tribe Your Tribe

Indie // Portarlington, Laois

My Tribe Your Tribe is an Irish indie band and recording project of Laois musician, George Mercer

Initially inspired by the introspective electronic sounds of late-night Irish radio-playlisting, George began experimenting with electronic music production and synthesizer sounds before pursuing a string of self-produced EP's and singles which he would launch under his My Tribe Your Tribe moniker.

George later developed MTYT's sound into the more expansive, full-band, electro-tinged, Alt-Pop productions heard on singles, 'Will to Survive', 'Only a Horizon', 'Ghost with You' and 'Loyalties', a three-track EP, released last year.

Following MTYT'S inception of national tours and performances at Other Voices' Music Trail, Electric Picnic, Body and Soul Festival and more, Mercer set his focus on self-producing a debut album titled 'I Learn A Lot From You', at his home studio in Portarlington.

Album singles ‘Adrenalover’, ‘Kiteboard Jukebox Video Days’ and Imposter showcase a fusion of the open, immediacy of George’s recent songwriting with the explorative electronic aesthetic of his previous music.

‘I Learn A Lot From You’ is a collection of ten tracks with lyrics that weave in and out of the concept of self-identity, utilising flashes of nostalgic imagery like a sonic collage of uprooted memories.

On first inspection, MTYT's latest music appears as an upbeat marriage of pitch-shifted Indie-Psychedelic guitars and retro-synths slotting in in somewhere between the minimalism of classic 80's synth pop bands and technicolored production aesthetics of artists such as LCD sound system and Tame impala.

My Tribe Your Tribe tours in the form of a full-scale four-piece live band with drums, guitars and live synths.

Nialler9 -Since their inception in 2015, My Tribe Your Tribe have become one of the most compelling and consistent bands in the Irish music scene.

This is mainly due to their inherent ability to weave different genres through their music; they have become known for their signature brand of electro-pop sound with rock undercurrents and each of their recent releases has seen them them develop sound this even more.

The band’s upbeat new single Adrenalover, showcases exactly what they do best; it merges core characteristics of electro-pop and rock and fuses them together to form beguiling results. The song comes complete with irresistible synth lines and a dangerously catchy chorus melody, yet the drums and guitar riffs prevent it from foraying too far into the pop realm.

The Thin Air - '' My Tribe Your Tribe really caught our attention back in February with the dreamy, subtly cascading alt-electro of ‘Only a Horizon’.
Going several steps further, their new single, ‘Will To Survive’, was obviously written with those imminent summer festival sets in mind. Danceable in all the right places, it looks both inward and outward, evoking the vocals of Ben Gibbard, and a musical marriage between Caribou and early Arcade Fire''

The Last Mixed Tape - "Sitting on a bed of beautifully-realized production, ‘Ghost With You’ is what My Tribe Your Tribe have been moving towards all their career, THIS is their sound, who they are as a band, their music"

Dublin Concerts - "Given the impressive musical catalogue that My Tribe Your Tribe have displayed, this year alone, it’s clear that their exciting combination of electro-synth and psychedelic qualities work. Their reoccurring appearances and considering how well received their latest three singles have been, it’s fair to say that is the sort of garage fuelled, angst-filled sound that fans want more of, and they want it now.
